Cooperative Reader's Advisory (CORA)
The virtual Cooperative Reader's Advisory (CORA) project will make reader's
advisory services available virtually, online, through local participating
libraries' websites and the Meebo instant messaging service. Volunteer advisors
will, on their "shifts" chat with readers to give them suggestions for the next
good book for them to read! (Think "virtual cooperative reference," except
it's reader's advisory.)
We had an information session in Wimba this morning. If you who weren't
able to join us f or this is the first you've heard of it....we archived the
session and the link to the archive is below:

Best Small Library in America Award Nomination Guidelines
Library
Journal's annual award for the
Best Small Library in America, cosponsored by the Bill
& Melinda Gates Foundation, was founded to encourage and showcase the
exemplary work of these libraries. Now in its fifth year, the award honors the
public library that most profoundly demonstrates outstanding service to
populations of 25,000 or less (see attached
for complete eligibility and submissions requirements).
The winning library will
receive a $15,000 cash award, a feature story in the February 1, 2009, Library
Journal, membership and conference costs for two library representatives to
attend the Public Library Association Biannual Conference in 2010 in Portland, OR, and a gala reception at the conference.
Starting with the 2009 award year, two finalist libraries will be awarded with
membership and conference costs for two library representatives to attend the
PLA conference and the gala
reception in 2010, and they will be given special mention in Library
Journal.

Moving auction
The Independence Public Library is moving to a new facility and will be having
an auction starting at 5:30 pm on Thursday, Aug. 28th. It will be located at
our city warehouse which is by the Riverwalk Park on the northeast side of
town. The address is 331 Corrine Ave Northeast. There will be many items on
the auction including shelving, tables, chairs, card catalog, circulation desk,
office furniture/items, a slat wall display unit, lateral file cabinets, etc.
There will soon be more detailed information and pictures on the library's
website,
www.indylibrary.org, so check
that out on August 21st or after for more information.

Come be part of the excitement of building your new library.
Meetings every Tuesday at the United Methodist Church as follows:
- 5:00 P.M. –Leadership Committee –Identifies community volunteer leadership.
- 6:00 P.M. –Communications – Gets the word out about the campaign.
- 7:00 P.M. –Prospect Development – Finding the funds.
- 8:00 P.M. – Case Validation – Reasons for new library.
Meetings are limited to one hour. Attend when you can. Your input is needed.
